I just found a potential goldmine if you're looking for some minxy ladies for future works ... it seems that Ingres, in between painting voluptuous nude bathers, painted several portrait commissions. A particularly expressive one is Vicomtess Othenin d'Haussonville, née Louise-Albertine de Broglie. A much more famous portrait from his oeuvre is Madame Paul Sigisbert Moitessier, née Marie Clotilde Inès de Foucauld, Seated, whilst Josephine-Eleonore-Marie-Pauline de Galard de Brassac de Bearn, Princesse de Broglie will be a good one to choose if you decide to have a "blue period", chromatically speaking! :)

You'll find a few usable renditions of one or two of the above on this Chinese blog. :)

Thanks so much for all the research!  I am sorry to say that I don't like the way Ingres painted women's heads. They look odd. I really appreciate the fervor you put into all these chases, I do something similar on a much smaller scale for an illustrator, but you really go out of your way to find out about these ladies!

Ingres had a peculiar way of rendering women full stop in my view, and also seemed to have a penchant for glorifying clinically significant obesity in some of his works. Nowadays, of course, the fashion industry has the opposite problem, glorifying dangerous levels of being underweight. The vicissitudes of life and all that. :)

What frequently happens is that the spark is lit, whenever I see something that makes me think "Oh, I want to find out more about this artist, especially if more images like this are part of the oeuvre", and off I go a-hunting. One of the advantages of having spent more money than is wise on my own collection of art books, being that I usually have some inkling of what to look for even if I don't immediately home in on the artist directly. In this latest instance, the chain went "Rubens ... hmm, miss, try David ... getting there ... who were his contemporaries ... AHA! Ingres!"

Oh, and someone worth pursuing further, is a woman artist of the 18th century, Marie-Louise Elisabeth Vigée-LeBrun. Who, amidst an inordinate fondness for painting her daughter, produced some quite memorable portraits, including one or two fairly racy ones featuring the infamous Lady Emma Hamilton. You'll have lots of fun with those when you alight upon them! :)
